The Botero Museum has one of the most important collections of international art that can be found in Latin America
Thanks to the donation made by Maestro Fernando Botero in 2000 to the Banco de la República, the public from the capital and abroad have been able to access this important international art exhibition for free and permanently. It is made up of 208 works, 123 by him and 85 by prominent international artists.
During the opening ceremony of the Museum, Botero expressed:
For me it is an infinite pleasure to know that these works belong to Colombia today; know that the students who enter this house will come into contact with the most important artistic currents of our time, permanently contemplating original works by great masters; know that lovers of painting and sculpture can come and visit this haven of peace and stroll quietly through these rooms, allowing themselves to be inundated by modern aesthetics
Every day about a thousand people visit the Botero Museum, and many others, including children, teachers, adults and families, participate in the educational programs that the Bank of the Republic offers, also free of charge, to bring the public closer to this magnificent collection.
There are guided tours, talks, conferences, workshops for children and teachers, among other activities, fulfilling the desire of the teacher Fernando Botero: to be there forever, for the teaching and enjoyment of all Colombians.

On the western side of the Museum, the 123 works of the master Botero himself are exhibited, among which are paintings, drawings and sculptures. In these pieces you can appreciate the characteristic features of the artist's work, his extraordinary mastery of technique, the coherence of his vision, creativity, sensuality, handling of volume, taste for unforeseen detail and that combination of irony and respect that has marked his treatment of Colombian themes or his allusions to universal painting. They are, above all, works from the last decades of the 20th century that allow us to enjoy the language and style that has characterized the painter in his maturity.
On the eastern side of the house, the international collection of the Botero Museum is exhibited, 85 works of the highest level that give a very complete idea of the evolution of modern painting and sculpture, the oldest work being Gitane au tambourin (prior to 1862) by Camille Corot and the most recent, the great oil painting by Barceló (1998). A collection that brings together such prominent artists as Picasso, Leger, Renoir, Monet, Dalí, Giacometti, Beckmann, Freud, Calder and Bacon, and that placed the Botero Museum among the five most important public international art collections in Latin America.
